Nya Resident Evil-filmen är inspirerad av John Carpenter

Den senaste filmserien baserad på Resident Evil-franchisen må ha dragit in en massa kosing på biograferna, men varken kritiker eller spelfans hade särskilt mycket gott att säga om de senaste filmerna sett till handlingen. Kanske kan den kommande filmen Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City - som är baserad på de två första spelen - vara lite mer trogen sin förlaga nu när regissören Johannes Roberts har avslöjat sin filmiska inspirationskälla.

Enligt IGN var Roberts oerhört inspirerad av skräckmästaren John Carpenter och underströk att tonen var det viktigaste att få till - i synnerhet den från den nytolkade Resident Evil 2:

""[The remake of the second game] was such a wonderful cinematic experience with the tone, the constant dark, rain, the aspect of the game and I just took that and went yeah, that's the world I want to work in," Roberts said. "We very much took the tone of the remake of the second game and made that our template for this movie.""

Roberts nämnde Carpenters Assault on Precint 13 och The Fog som utgångspunkt:

"I'm a huge John Carpenter fan and I really took to that. The way he tells these claustrophobic siege movies and I took movies like Assault on Precinct 13 and The Fog and these disparate group of characters coming together under siege, and I took that as my filmic inspiration."

"We have two very separate locations but we split people off into their worlds. One is more of a siege movie style with the police station, and then you have the mansion which is creepy as f*ck."

I rollerna kan vi bland annat se Hannah John-Kamen som Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell som Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario som Claire Redfield och Avan Jogia som Leon S. Kennedy. Man siktar på biopremiär i september. Hur sugen är du på att återvända till Racoon City, i filmformat?
