Beyond Blue är inspirerat av den underbara BBC-dokumentären Blue Planet 2, och redan där blev vi nyfikna nog att vilja leta upp E-Line Media-representanten Steve Zimmermann. Han hade mycket att berätta om spelet och sade:
"We were contacted a number of years ago by the BBC, who let us know that there were going to be doing a follow-up to their hit documentary series Blue Planet, appropriately named Blue Planet 2, and then what would we do if they gave us access to all of the footage - used and unused - as well as all of the scientific research, and all of the access to the scientists; could we make a game out of that? And the answer was a resounding 'yes', and so Beyond Blue is the fruition of all of that coming together."
Så vad spelar man som då och vad gör man? Det är precis vad vi frågade Zimmermann som svarade:
"In the game you're playing as [...] a deepwater exploration research scientist, and you are called to the South China sea because you're starting to notice some unusual biological activity in this particular area, and you and your team need to figure out what's going on and why. So your team also consists of three people that are going to be up in the ship on the surface, while you - the player - will never actually see them face-to-face. You'll be able to communicate with them, and then you are exploring a number of different biomes within the ocean, as well as being able to access information on your little mini-submarine as well."
Som sig bör med ett spel baserat på en prisbelönt dokumentärserie, får vi lära oss lite också. Han avslutar:
"One of the things that E-Line Media is known for is including what we call, in Never Alone they were called cultural insights, in Beyond Blue they will be known as ocean insights, and that's where the player will unlock five to 10 minutes snippets of a scientist or a researcher talking about the thing you just did within the game, or the impact that that has within the world as a whole. So you'll have almost an hours' worth of footage of interviews and things that you haven't seen before sort of giving you more of an insight and more depth to what you just played."
